Los Hermanos started out as a small Bodega. Back then the twins were only 10 years old and so their parents would bring them to the store to help out. During this time their mother would cook for them and the rest of the family. The smell of home cooked Dominican food would fill the Bodega and soon the customers who frequented the Bodega would try to buy their mothers food. Eventually their father bought a steam table and soon the mother was bringing in more money into the business with her cooking than the actual Bodega would.
This led to a few remodeling sessions over the years and full reign was given to the Mother to do as she pleased bringing in a very large amount of loyal customers over the years. Going to Los Hermanos is second only to having your mother prepare a nice warm meal for you when you get home. Los Hermanos is our house and yours as well. Chances are that you will be transported back to Grandma’s house (wherever that may be) when she would serve you food.

Cheap Eats 2013: Los Hermanos
Washington’s ethnic-food landscape may be vast, but Dominican cuisine remains a rarity here. This cafeteria-style operation reminds us what we’re missing. The brothers manning the counter, Raymond and Aris Compres, sling gut-busting portions of their mother’s cooking.
This Hole-in-the-Wall DC Dominican Restaurant Serves Every Team That Plays the Nationals
The Pittsburgh Pirates have six. The New York Mets boast four. The Nationals have none. Shutouts? Nope. Shake Shacks? Uh-uh.

Fantastic food at a great price!
This place is so lowkey but as soon as you walk in, the scent of savory Dominican food hits you. Very no frills, hole in the wall feels where you will be given a massive amount of comfort food.
I got a platter with plaintains, rice, and the juiciest, tender stewed Dominican chicken. The lady gave me three massive pieces, and I was able to split my plate with a friend. The rice was well seasoned with some veggies and lentils inside. The plaintains were perfectly soft and sweet.

There was no street parking so we parked in the Target parking garage which was a quick walk to shove our faces.
I was so excited to have authentic Dominican food that I ordered most of my favorites.

Walking into this place is like walking into a restaurant in DR. The food is incredible. We ordered queso frito, empanadas and a bandera (moro de habichuelas, carne guisada and sweet plantains). Honestly it was so delicious and reminded me being back in DR. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning.
